If boards are cupped across a large area or the subfloor is soft, the moisture source has to be found and fixed first. Sanding cupped boards too early can leave them crowned once they dry.

Will the repair be visible?
Properly laced-in boards of the same species and width, sanded and finished to blend, are very hard to spot. Refinishing the full room afterward gives the most seamless result.
Can you replace just one or two boards?
Yes. Individual boards can be cut out and replaced without pulling up the surrounding floor.
Will cupped boards flatten on their own?
Often they flatten partly once the moisture problem is fixed and the wood dries out, which is why we wait before sanding.
